MindFit Week 2 – Dr. Robert Goldman

MindFIT Week 2 with Dr. Robert Goldman

“The Cure for F*ck It, is the Effort.”

Last week was the second week of the MindFIT program. We reviewed week one’s previous mindset of the day (open-mindedness v. close mindedness) and the weekly practice of applying it to our daily lives. One of our members was gracious enough to draw the metaphor of the previous week. With his consent, I am including his artistry in this blog.

After our first session, many of the participants were understandably sore. If we did not embrace our adversity, we would have surrendered and failed. Hence, the Mindset of the Day (MOD) was Perseverance v. Surrender. When faced with adversity, we often give up and say “F*ck it”. The cure for “F*ck it”, is to persevere and put the Effort in.

To our participants credit, they embraced their adversity (soreness), put the effort in, and showed up for week two. In honor of Tom’s Petty passing we used his metaphor, “You can stand me up at the gates of hell, but I won’t back down”. For those of you, who may not be familiar with this song, please check out https://youtu.be/nvlTJrNJ5lA.

We played this song during the Workout of the Day (WOD), which involved Burpees and Air Squats. Level 2 CrossFit Coach Joey Adduci (owner of CrossFit Commack, http://www.crossfitcommack.com) created a partner WOD that facilitated connection. After the WOD, the participants gave examples of how they embraced their adversity (which we all have). Their stories inspired me to persevere. If you are interested in being inspired, please sign up for MindFIT.
