Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO) is a medical treatment in which the patient breathes high concentrations of oxygen under increased pressure. At the CIIT Center, we use single person (monoplace) chambers.

How does it work?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy helps achieve optimal cellular functioning by providing additional oxygen for the cells in your body. More oxygen creates more energy for accelerated repair along with enhanced regeneration of tissue. Hypoxic tissue (low oxygen levels) can lead to cell death and is a primary cause of most major health conditions such as stroke, heart attacks, cancer, diabetic complications, and many more.

What is the preparation protocol for HBO Treatment?

The patient will undress and change into a 100% cotton gown (provided by the CIIT Center). The technician will go over a safety checklist and the patient will be positioned for comfort before treatment begins.

What will I feel during treatment?

You may feel some slight pressure in your ears during treatment. This pressure-change feeling is the same as when you take off in an airplane, travel up/down a mountain, or scuba dive. The technician will provide Instructions on how to equalize this pressure in the ears before you begin your treatment. When you reach your prescribed pressure, any fullness in your ear will cease. At this point of the treatment, you may watch TV, listen to music, or take a nap.
