Depression is a common but serious mood disorder. It causes severe symptoms that affect how you feel, think, and handle daily activities, such as sleeping, eating or working. Depressive disorder is a serious medical condition that impacts over 15 million adults in the United States per year. Antidepressant medications may not work very effectively and have numerous side effects. There are many depressed patients who do not comply with their medication regimen and 2 out of 3 patients that do take their medications as prescribed continue to feel depressed.
Anxiety is an emotion characterized by an unpleasant state of inner turmoil, often accompanied by nervous behavior, such as pacing back and forth and numerous chronic physical complaints. It is also subject to feelings of dread over anticipated events, such as a feeling of imminent death. Anxiety is different than fear. Fear is responding to a real, immediate threat, whereas anxiety is the expectation of future threat. Overall, anxiety is a feeling of uneasiness, worry and overreaction to a situation. It is often accompanied by muscular tension, restlessness, fatigue and problems concentrating.
Our top notch professional team takes a global approach to treating patients with these chronic issues. First off, we understand depression and anxiety to be symptoms of underlying biochemical and neurological imbalance that we must identify. Through extensive testing of blood, urine and stool, we can clearly assess for underlying problems that may be causative or contributory. We screen for MTHFR gene mutations that are directly linked to these issues. We also look carefully at our patient’s nervous system through a functional examination as well as brain mapping.
Once we have all the information, we treat our patients comprehensively with a program of care that includes natural compounds, IV nutrition, neurological rehabilitation and neurofeedback. We have the ability to prescribe and/or reduce medications as well.
For patients who do not respond to medication or other therapies, we offer Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS). TMS is a painless 45-50 minute treatment that is usually done 5 or 6 days a week for 5-6 weeks. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is FDA cleared and most often covered through insurance and medicare plans. It is a non-invasive, drug-free, effective alternative with long lasting relief. Over a million individuals have successfully used transcranial magnetic stimulation to effectively change their lives from chronic and debilitating psychiatric conditions that impact millions of people each year.
